Pact of the Shield

Pact Boon

At 3rd level, your otherworldly patron bestows a gift upon you for your loyal service. When you choose your Pact Boon feature, the following option is available to you.

Pact of the Shield

You can use your bonus action to summon your pact shield in an empty hand. You are proficient with it while you wield it. It counts as magical for the purpose of effects that affect items.
Your pact shield grats a +1 to AC.
The creature wielding your pact shield can use their reaction to capture some incoming energy, lessening its effect on the creature and storing it.

  • Triggered when you take acid, cold, fire, lightning, or thunder damage. They have resistance to the triggering damage type until the start of their next turn. On their next turn they can make a melee attack using your spell attack modifier. If they hit, the target takes 1d6, plus your Charisma modifier damage of the triggering type.
Your pact shield disappears if it is more than 30ft away from you for 1 hour or more. It also disappears if you dismiss the shield (no action required), or if you die.

Eldritch Invocations

In your study of occult lore, you have unearthed eldritch invocations, fragments of forbidden knowledge that imbue you with an abiding magical ability.
At 2nd level, you gain two eldritch invocations of your choice. Your invocation options are detailed at the end of the class description. When you gain certain warlock levels, you gain additional invocations of your choice, as shown in the Invocations Known column of the Warlock table.
If an eldritch invocation has prerequisites, you must meet them to learn it. You can learn the invocation at the same time that you meet its prerequisites. A level prerequisite refers to your level in this class.

Improved Pact Shield

Prerequisite: Pact of the Shield feature
Your pact shield can be used as a spellcasting focus for any class. Additionally, your pact shield now grants a +2 to AC.

Remote Presence

Prerequisite: Pact of the Shield feature
As a bonus action, you can peer through your pact shield, seeing the world as if you were standing in its location.

  • You are cut off from your own senses when you do so, which causes you to automatically fail Strength and Dexterity saving throws, attack rolls against you have advantage, and you can only take actions, bonus actions, or reactions from the location of your pact shield.
  • You must use a bonus action to end this effect.

Intercepting Shield

Prerequisite: 5th level, Pact of the Shield feature
When a creature you can see hits a target that is wielding your pact shield, including yourself, you can use your reaction to reduce the damage the target takes by 1d10 + your Charisma bonus.

Eldritch Battery

Prerequisite: 7th level, Pact of the Shield feature
Once per long rest you can cast Counterspell at 4th-level without expending a spell slot. If the Counterspell succeeds, the spell is stored in your pact shield and remains there until you finish a long rest. Unless you use an action to trigger an effect of your battery.

  • Consume: The creature wielding your pact shield can regain a spell slot equal to the level of the stored spell.
  • Discharge: The creature wielding your pact shield can re-cast the spell using the stats of the original spell caster.
